For a small number of surfers each month, the shaping room opens up for something rare: a one-on-one, fully immersive build alongside Scotty James of SJS Custom - a master craftsman turned legend shaper who still does every step himself. Shape, sand, glass, polish. No production line. No hand-offs. No shortcuts.

Just decades of knowledge, shared directly with you.

You’ll start with a real conversation of how you surf, where you surf, what’s felt right, what hasn’t. From there, you move into the build:

Learning how rocker, rails, volume and outline actually affect feel …
Shaping your own blank with guidance, not guesswork …
Understanding not just what to do, but why it matters.

Somewhere between your first cut and your final polish, something shifts.

And by the end of it, you’re holding something different - not just a custom board, but one you’ve helped bring to life. One that makes sense the moment you paddle out.

You’ll stay 3 nights onsite in the Gold Coast hinterland: quiet, green, and grounding - close enough to world-class waves when it’s time to put it to the test. Surf when it’s on. Reset when it’s not. No noise, no rush.

This is part surf trip, part craft apprenticeship.
